Summer Search Boston Professional Network

Professional Network Mission

The Professional Network is a group of young professionals who share Summer Search’s commitment to youth leadership development for low-income students in Boston, Massachusetts. The members of the Professional Network volunteer by fundraising for Summer Search through events and creating professional development opportunities for Summer Search Alumni.

Fundraising

In the fall of 2008 the group (previously named the Committee for Community Action) hosted its first ever fundraising event at Johnny’s on the Side, which was a great success!  In May of 2009, the Professional Network hosted a “5k for 3k”, where community members joined the Summer Search sophomores in running 3 miles to prepare for their upcoming wilderness trips.  In addition to supporting the students in this challenge, the Professional Network also raised $2,130 - enough to fund an internship for a Summer Search Alum. 

On September 25th, 2009 the Professional Network hosted its second fall fundraising event, the Annual Autumn Gala, which was attended by 150 people and raised over $10,000 for Summer Search Boston.  The evening included drinks, hors d’oeuvres, live music, dancing, a raffle, and the chance to learn more about Summer Search from our student speakers and ambassadors. 

We are very grateful to everyone who attended or donated to this event and hope that you will continue to support the Professional Network and Summer Search’s success in 2010!

professional development

The Professional Network plays a key role supporting the professional development of our alumni and helping them transition into the professional world. They do this by volunteering at events where they conduct mock interviews, critique resumes, and network with our alumni to strengthen their skills and prepare them for successful careers.

Professional Network members also help create internship placements for our alumni and act as Professional Buddies for internship candidates supporting them with resumes, cover letters and interviewing skills. In the summer of 2009, the Professional Network was instrumental in creating 2 internship placements with Powderhouse Productions and Children’s Hospital. This year the Professional Network has committed to creating 5 internship placements for our alumni!
