Jennifer is passionate about advocating for vulnerable populations and plans on completing a Master’s degree in Public Health in order to develop and implement culturally sensitive programs for these populations. She is mainly interested in researching ways to reduce the many barriers that exist for communities of color in accessing health care, thus eliminating health disparities. Her professional goals include being involved in developing culturally appropriate nutrition education curricula that will increase knowledge and awareness about the importance of dietary quality in order to reduce the risks of chronic illnesses. She also hopes to learn the tools necessary to evaluate the efficacy of community-based programs that will have an impact on communities of color in the United States.
Asked about the impact of Summer Search, Jennifer said she was provided with the opportunity to build and hone the leadership skills that will ultimately allow her to make significant contributions in the public health sector both locally and globally.
Jennifer spent her first summer with Summer Search conducting science experiments at Teton Science Schools in Wyoming. Her second summer was spent in Switzerland with The Experiment in International Living.
