Dear Summer Search New York City Alumni,

As many of you know, following the 2007 first National Alumni Summit, members of the Summer Search New York City office have officially created a New York City alumni board. Under the auspices of the NYC mentors, your fellow alumni have developed a board that will help you and other alumni remain in contact with the Summer Search New York City office. Currently, the board consists of 9 alumni from the 2005-2007 graduating classes, and we look forward to getting the new 2008 alumni class involved—congratulations graduates and welcome to the alumni community!

We understand that as alumni we may become hesitant to contact our Summer Search mentors. This student-run alumni board will help us formulate a support community between each other—student to student.

Internship Highlight

Summer Search Alumna Interns at the National Museum of the American Indian

Carrie Gonzalez is from the first class of Summer Search NYC students which graduated in 2005. In her first year as a Summer Search student, she went on a wilderness expedition and did community service on the Hopi Reservation with Deer Hill Expeditions. During her second year, she went to France with the Experiment in International Living. Carrie is currently a senior at Hunter College pursuing a B.A. in Anthropology and Psychology and a minor in Spanish. She is also a member of the New York City Alumni Board. read more >

2008 NaTIONAL ALUMNI SUMMIT

This past summer, Summer Search Alumni from all 7 offices packed their bags, put on professional clothes and headed to San Francisco for the Second National Alumni Summit. On August 1st and 2nd, over 200 Summer Search Alumni gathered at the event which focused on building a community of everyday leaders for sustainable change. A grand total of 21 NYC Alumni attended the Summit. read more >

Alumni GIVING challenge

Hey Summer Searchers,

As many of you know, Summer Search Alumni met and exceeded the first ever Alumni Giving Challenge this past year by raising $44,184.61! Thirteen percent of alumni participated in the challenge - thank you to all who gave so generously! With the matching gift of $40,000, you helped raised $84,184.61, which is enough to send 34 sophomores and juniors on life-changing programs this summer. read more >

That time of the year is quickly approaching. The time that I am talking about is when all of us Summer Search alumni get together during the holiday season to catch up on what everyone else is doing, meet the new class of Summer Search alumni and learn about opportunities for all Summer Search alumni. Summer Search Updates

We’re closing the books on 2008, which was the first year of our strategic growth plan. Across the organization, Summer Search sent 735 first and second-year students away on summer programs (compared to 538 last year) – a 37% increase! read more >
