Holiday Party
by Ti’esh Harper
In hopes of keeping in contact with Seattle alumni, Summer Search Seattle held a Holiday Party on January 3, 2008. There was a great turnout with ten alumni showing up at Mexico Restaurant in downtown Seattle for great food and great company. It was wonderful to see familiar faces and to reconnect with old friends. The evening began with large smiles and full hearts and the evening ended with even larger smiles and fuller hearts. Summer Search Seattle would like to thank all of the alumni in attendance for their generous donations to Summer Search. Our hope is to increase the percentage of alumni giving to Summer Search, no matter the amount of the donation, in the coming months. And for those that were unable to attend this year’s holiday party we are hoping to see you next year.
Upcoming Alumni Board Initiatives
by Alma Lopez
We have thought of creating a college support network between the younger, recently graduated Summer Search seniors and older Alum. Two important ideas we’re working on are the annual Rites of Passage/Alumni Picnic and an art exhibit fundraiser. The Rites of Passage/Alumni Picnic event is where seniors talk about their concerns and hopes about attending college; this year we want the conversation to be between the seniors and alumni so we are planning an informal picnic this summer for all Seattle Alumni to get together. Hope to see you on July 15th!
Our second idea is to create an art exhibit fundraiser, where Summer Search students could express their summer experiences through art. We envision the Seattle Alumni Association to be a support network among the Alumni where we plan important events and a resource for bringing funds for Summer Search.
What do you think? Do you want to help make these ideas happen – or do you have ideas of your own to build the Summer Search Alumni Association in Seattle? Email us at seattlealumniboard@summersearch.org.
Summer Search Seattle Alumni Association Update
by Jennifer Hahn McCoy, Director of College Access & Alumni Relations
As you can see, we are in the midst of some pretty exciting developments here at Summer Search Seattle! As our program grows, so does our Alumni Association – of which you are a part. In addition to the creation of our first ever Alumni Board, we are in the process of developing a formal internship program where we will be able to match up alumni with local internship opportunities.
We are always eager to hear from you! Never hesitate to call the office and “check-in”! As an alum, you will never hear the words….” Why haven’t you called in?” Instead, we will be thrilled to hear your voice! You can reach the office at (206) 729-0911, or email me at jhahn@summersearch.org.
