Summer Search is seeking a motivated candidate interested in interning with us through the summer (June 2012 – September 2012) and possibly also through the following school year (September 2012 – June 2013) for 16-20 hours per week. We are looking for someone who is eager to learn and take on any task to assist us in reaching our goals as organization.

Status: Part-time, non-exempt
Reports to: Outreach & Events Director

Job Summary

The intern is a key supporter of the Summer Search Seattle team, providing essential administrative support with office operations and programs. The intern manages the front desk and provides general administrative support, event planning support, and a wide variety of project support. This is a great opportunity to develop office administrative skills and professional skills while working for an organization committed to improving the life prospects of low-income youth and the communities around them.

Essential Functions

Administrative and Communication Support

  • Answers the general phone line, directs calls and takes messages.
  • Greets office visitors and directs them as appropriate.
  • Maintains office equipment, supplies and space including requesting technicians, coordinating IT support and keeps office stocked and organized.
  • Manages routine day-to-day activities such as incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Manages program email blasts and website updates.

Program Support

  • Creates student communications including mailings, emails, and phone reminders.
  • Maintains and tracks student gear orders and inventory.
  • Enters student data in support of mentors and program staff.

Event and Project Support

  • Provides assistance in coordinating staff and student events and meetings including communications, venue prep, catering, and conference calls.
  • Assists various projects on an as needed basis.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 1-2 years work experience, preferably in an office setting.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Self-starter who is comfortable in a close-knit team-oriented setting and is strong at balancing multiple projects at once.
  • Flexibility and eagerness to learn and work on different tasks independently as needed.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding our students and organization.
  • Strong command of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook and Excel) and familiarity with database operations.
  • Sense of humor.

Minimum Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged sitting and working in front of the computer.
  • May require some local traveling and working on weekends and evenings.

Schedule

Tuesday – Friday from 2-6PM; occasional evenings and weekends for events.

Compensation & Benefits

  • $10 per hour
  • Ability to tailor your learning to gain experience and exposure to the many facets of working within a youth development non-profit.
  • Work with an individual supervisor who will mentor you through the experience.
