On November 3rd, Summer Search Silicon Valley hosted its annual dinner at Sharon Heights Golf & Country Club. Over 275 people attended and made this an evening to remember: we celebrated the power of Summer Search to transform lives and raised over $260,000. Hosted by event co-chairs Karen Bergman and Helen-Lin Murphy, the evening’s program featured Sequoia High School senior Salvador, Mt. Eden High School junior Vanessa and San Francisco 49ers COO (and Silicon Valley board member) Paraag Marathe. Click here to learn more about this special evening.
On September 8th, we gathered local leaders in the venture capital and tech entrepreneur community for a cocktail party to learn more about our high-impact program. Current Summer Search student, Nancy Yera, Class of ’12 and alumnus, Cang Quach, Class of ‘98 shared their compelling stories with the attendees. Nancy offered insight into how she is developing as a leader through her experiences as a Summer Searcher and Cang offered his perspective on how he has utilized the leadership skills he developed through Summer Search since being the first in his family to graduate from college. Thank you to our hosts, Matt Murphy, Phil Schlein, Mark Siegel, and Dana Stalder as well as Helen Lin-Murphy for reaching out to their friends and colleagues in this community and for making this event possible.
On September 17th, Silicon Valley board members, students, supporters, and their families joined forces with Shelter Network to help plant, tend, and expand the New Beginnings Organic Garden at Haven Family House in Menlo Park. Spending the afternoon enhancing the garden for the residents of this facility was a gratifying experience, particularly for our students, as they continue to learn the value of giving back to their communities.
